Tech/Feasability Analysis or Metadata Analysis are the two that quickly come to mind not knowing what your PhD program is in.

Um, What is the field of science for the PhD?

In reply to Additional Details:
Biotechnology is a hot field as companies such as Genetech and Amgen have made lots of money. There are many investors wondering what the next Genetech or Amgen will be. On the west coast there are a myriad of biotech companies and pharmaceuticals that are popping up especially in San Diego and the Bay area.
VC firms will provide investments into starting and new companies in hopes to reap large rewards if those companies become very successful.

With a PhD in this area, you should be able to help a VC firm "predict" or speculate which firms are on the right track to develop something useful to the market. You should have a good idea of what is cutting edge and what will be "hot" in the future and with your background you can research which company your VC firm can invest in with the least amount of risk.

This is a general idea of what you could do for a VC firm. If you have some good mathematics background and some programming background you can help develop models for investing as well.

Hope this helps
