In very plain english, I would like a brief explanation of venture capital, everything you can tell me, and also mutual funds.
I would also like to know what would be a good investment right now with only $2000.

I went through a divorce and my credit is not so good, but I have a fabulous idea and know-how to open a retail business. Any options?

I imagine if the financing is structured as a convertible loan, then the money is added as a liability. But if the investment is in return for common shares, how is the transaction recorded?

I am currently a graduate student and am applying for internships at consulting firms for the next summer (graduating in 2009). However, one of the career counselors suggest I also consider VC firms that specialize in biotech/technology ventures. What kind of work would a PhD scientist do at a VC firm? How would I fit in? Thanks!

I have a contact within one firm, and I don’t want to ruin my chances with them by speaking with other firms as well. Does anyone know what the norm is? Do most entrepreneurs discuss options with multiple firms during the same round?
